4 Ways to Treat a Dry Scalp

Dry scalps can have several causes such as change in weather or a harsh ingredient present in your hair care products. If you don’t treat a dry scalp, it can result in excessive itchiness and irritation.

These four steps might be just what you need to restore scalp moisture and healthy hair:

Scalp Massage

This is the easiest and most effective treatment for a dry scalp. Give your scalp a massage simply by rubbing your fingers in a gentle, circular motion using shampoo or any oil of your choice.

Scalp massages stimulate natural oils and increase blood flow to the hair follicles, allowing them to receive more nutrients and soothe the scalp.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has strong anti-fungal properties that are beneficial for relieving dryness on the scalp. This is one of the primary reasons most anti-dandruff shampoos have tea-tree oil added in their ingredients.

Simply mix a few drops of tea tree oil with any other oil of your choice such as coconut or olive oil, and massage it onto your scalp. It is ideal to leave the mixture on for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before washing it out.

Change Your Shampoo

If you notice a dry scalp on a routine basis, you might need to change your shampoo. Opt for gentler shampoos and hair products that won’t be too harsh on your hair and scalp.

Routine washing can also cause dry scalps. If you shampoo your hair every day or with hot water, you might want to avoid that so your scalp does not dry out often.

Hydrate

For healthy skin, hydration is highly recommended as part of your skincare routine. Interestingly, drinking more water will also automatically benefit your hair. When your body is dehydrated, your skin tends to become exhausted and lose all its freshness. This, in turn, effects the scalp and causes it to dry out faster.

Almost everybody has experienced a dry scalp during some time in their life. However, it is always important to take appropriate measures to avoid the condition to worsen, and these remedies will help you do just that!
